Do I Have Rights Under the CCPA?

The rights provided by the CCPA are limited to natural persons who are California residents. This includes:

  1. Every individual in the state other than for a temporary or transitory purpose

  2. And every individual who is domiciled in the state of California but outside the state for a temporary or transitory purpose

If you do not meet this criteria, you are not covered by the CCPA and businesses are not obligated to honor your requests. However, there are some businesses that have extended these rights to all consumers, whether they are a resident of California or not.

When you make a privacy request, you may be asked by a business to prove that you are a California resident.
